Principal's Message

Dear Crestmoor Parents,

I wanted to extend a hearty welcome back as we together prepare for a great 2011-2012 school year. My name is Ryan Haven and I’ve been given the privilege and responsibility to serve as Principal of Crestmoor Elementary. I am committed to continuing the high standards of achievement that have characterized Crestmoor’s proud legacy. I am also enthusiastic about embracing Crestmoor’s traditions and getting to know each and every parent and child in the coming weeks. Together, I look forward to pursuing a shared vision for our childrens’ future.

As a son and a grandson of teachers, the pursuit of academic excellence and community service has been a hallmark of my professional career. After graduating from Cornell University, I spent my first six years out of college helping immigrants become productive citizens and youth to develop a strong spiritual foundation. During the past nine years I’ve taught several grades at two very different elementary schools. I started out as a Spanish bilingual teacher in the Hayward Unified School District where I developed a passion to help each child set and exceed high standards. During the past six years I’ve assumed progressively more leadership respon-sibility in the Belmont-Redwood Shores School District, including that of Teacher-In-Charge and K-8 Summer School Principal. Throughout my career, I’ve prioritized developing the whole child, a task that I also undertake at home, as the married father of two girls, Ava (4) and Lila (2).

I do hope that you will take a moment before, during or after school to introduce yourself to me. Also, I would like to initiate weekly “coffee-talks” every Friday in September from 8:20 a.m.-9:00 a.m. where we can get to know one another and discuss school-related matters. If you require extra time to discuss other questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to stop by the office to set up an appointment.

I hope that this year you will take advantage of the many ways to become actively involved in your child’s education. I look forward to working collaboratively to support all our Crestmoor students in meeting and exceeding rigorous academic standards and fulfill our district’s vision to develop life-long learners who think creatively, critically, and independently and become productive and contributing members of society.

Sincerely,

Ryan L. Haven
