Parent Involvement at Crestmoor School
With the support of parents, families, and community members, the staff at Crestmoor School is committed to academic excellence. The Crestmoor PTO works directly with the staff to support such enriching programs as the music program (K-6) and the PE program (K-3). (The SBPSD supports our 4-6 PE program). In addition to those, the PTO sponsors the following school events: School Picnic, Pancake Breakfast, Crab Feed, Posy Parade Float, Spell-a-thon, to name a few.
Parents are informed of school policies, procedures, and academics through the Parent/Student Handbook. A weekly Principal’s Newsletter is distributed to inform parents of activities and accomplishments as well as ways to get involved at Crestmoor.
After the first trimester of school, parents are expected to attend a parent-teacher conference to discuss student progress. Parents can also read weekly bulletins by the principal and teacher as well as see attendance records and academic progress (grades 4-6) through the district-wide web-based Parent Portal on PowerSchool.
At the beginning of each school year, the PTO distributes information about how to get involved in their organization to support the school. Parents can volunteer for the school and/or PTO events by filling out a form and returning it to school. At Back-to-School Night, teachers inform parents of ways that they can directly assist in the classroom. Samples of assignments, homework tips, and State standards are also distributed for parental assistance.
Crestmoor School prides itself on open communication between home and school through phone conversations, newsletters/bulletins, email, and the PowerSchool Parent Portal.
