Principal's Message
Dear El Crystal Families:
El Crystal continues to be an excellent place to educate children. Our staff is dedicated to the success of each and every student. All staff members firmly believe in our motto: El Crystal School: Where Everyone Matters • Where Everyone Can Learn. Our added theme for this year is "Supporting the Learning Experience for All...".
El Crystal School Goals for 2010 • 2011
Improvement in Student Writing Skiils
1. We are in the second year of using Step Up to Writing. This program takes a very systematic approach to teach writing skills. It is used in every classroom. Our goal is to have 50% of every non-proficient writer gain at least one point on a 4 point rubric on their final writing assignment in May 2011. This is compared to their first writing assignment in September 2010.
2. Teachers are keeping writing portfolios of every student which is handed off to the receiving teacher at the beginning of each school year.
3. In the late Fall the teachers completed a Scope and Sequence Chart mapping out the flow of concepts and skills to be taught in writing across the seven grade levels. We are still using this Chart.
Improvement of Math Skills
1. Many students struggle with knowing math facts in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. We continue to use a software program called FASTT math which we implemented last year to help these students.
Increase Student Responsibility for Learning
1. Our goal is to create a positive learning environment for our students in both school and their personal lives through emphasis on student responsibility and personal pride.
Technology: Continue to be a Demonstration School for the Integration of Curriculum and Technology
1. Continue to use and expand technology to aid in the instruction of the adopted
curriculum
2. Implement the use of the iPod Touch in all classrooms. We have purchased 31 for student usage.
3. Continue to expand the El Crystal AudioBook Project (eCAP)
We look to have a productive, fun school year.
