Principal's Message
Dear Portola Families,
I hope that your summer vacation was enjoyable and you have had a chance to spend quality time with your families. As you are aware, funding for class-size reduction in the primary grades has been eliminated at the state level. Public Schools will have a different look than in years past, without proper funding from the state. Primary classes in the San Bruno Park School District will increase in size this year to 31 students. In an effort to maintain a high level of instruction, Portola has committed to a schedule change effective immediately for the 2010-11 School Year. This decision comes after much research and discussion among the Portola Staff. Please know that this schedule change is made with “what is best for the students” in mind.
Review the Early Bird/Late Bird schedule. As you will note, only Kindergarten through 3rd grade daily schedules will change.
The San Bruno Park and Recreation Department will provide on-site,
low cost supervision in Room 2 from 8:00 a.m.-9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.–3:00
p.m. for families who require child care support. This program will
begin on Monday August 30th. Please contact Dee at the Park and Recreation
Department at 616-7183. Flyers and registration forms will be available
in the Portola Office.
Thank-you for your understanding and continued support of Portola. The Portola Staff remain committed to providing your children with the same high quality education that has taken place in the past.
Sincerely yours,
Mr. Rohrbach
Portola Principal
The Portola Community is proud of all current and former Portola Students.
